Day 45 - 11/20/23 - Santos, Brazil

Today's port stop was a late addition to our itinerary replacing Punta del Este, Uruguay which was closed to us due to wind.  So we (Angela, Solange, Bill and I) caught the first shuttle from the port to a local shopping center.  Not much was open there at 10am, but we enjoyed a visit to a very large Carrefour store which was like a mini-Walmart.  I found some sugar free water enhancement powder packets to replace the liquid that I ran out of.  We wandered the mall for about an hour and then headed off for the nearby beach.

Once at the beach we turned right and walked about a mile up the beach until we reached a very old historical church that was sandwiched in between the new and modern high rise buildings.  It sure looked out of place.  But it was really pretty inside.  We considered heading up to Mount Monserrat, but decided there was probably not enough time so we headed back to the beach and traced our way back.  Along the way we found a beachside restaurant and enjoyed a light lunch and some cold beverages.

After our lunch break we headed back to the mall with a brief stop at a fabric store where I found some fluorescent gosgrain strap material to go around some luggage.  Back at the mall, Bill and Solange elected to catch the shuttle back to the ship while Angela and I returned to the mall and walked it some more.  This time there were lots of people there and the main display area was fully decorated in Christmas themed items and people were having their pictures taken with Santa.  I also found a luggage tag for my luggage and one for Angela's before we caught a shuttle back to the ship.

We ate dinner in the Tamarind popup in the Pinnacle Grill with Susan & Rick. It was yummy.

Our evening entertainment was a second performance by Camila Andrade.  She was once again very good.  Afterwards we watched the movie, The Lost City of Z about the British explorer Major Percival Fawcett who disappeared while searching for a mysterious city in the Amazon in the 1920's.

Tomorrow we'll be in Rio for two days which is projected to be hot and very full of excursion activities.
