Day 38 - 11/13/23 - At Sea to Montevideo - Day 2

There was less movement of the ship overnight and I slept a good 6 hours without waking up.  We've definitely left the Antarctic's weather grip and it was in the 40's F during the day.  After our interdenominational bible study, we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast before attending Dr. Neil Harris' very last Antarctic lecture.  This one was on the wreck of the Endeavor (Shackleton's ship which sank in 1921), and the subsequent attempts to locate it under the sea ice.  Yes it was finally found in 2022 and there will be a National Geographic movie about it along with a book about the history and eventual discovery of the wreck.  It was another excellent presentation.

After lunch, we did it. We're going to make another attempt at visiting Stanley, Falkland Islands.  We booked another cruise to Antarctica!.  This one will be on the Oosterdam starting 1/7/24 from San Antonio, Chile and will follow the typical San Antonio to Buenos Aires route with stops at Puerto Montt, Chacabuco, Puntas Arenas, Ushuaia, Antartica for 4 days, Stanley, Montevideo, Punta del Esta, and Buenos Aires.  These are the typical port stops on this type of voyage.  Our Grand cruise has replaced three of them with other interesting ports.  We think we'll make a side trip to Iguazu Falls before returning home. Yes, the Antarctic experience is very much worth repeating.  We'll only be home for a couple of weeks before flying back to Chile.  I joined the roll call for the new cruise and applied for my $250 CCL stock credit. Our plan is to not take any organized shore excursions except in Stanley and possibly in Buenos Aires and the post cruise trip to Iguazu Falls.  Hopefully, the weather conditions will be better as we'll be in the Antarctic's "summer".

In the afternoon, Jeremy gave a nice presentation on Buenos Aires.  Later we enjoyed a nice dinner in the Main Dining Room with Len and Kathy.  It was a formal night and Masquerade night.  3 of us had the lamb chops and they were excellent.

There was no World Stage entertainment tonight as there was a Masquerade Ball in the Crow's Nest with the Ocean Bar Band playing.  Drinks were flowing, dancers were dancing, and there were many different types of masks.  Mine was a Zorro looking affair.  We only stayed a short time before returning to our room to watch Monday night football in a quieter environment.  When we arrived, there were two new gifts:  a pair of collapsable, wheeled duffel bags.  It's a very practical and needed gift.

Tomorrow is another sea day before we reach Montevideo on Wednesday.
