Day 36 - 11/11/23 - At Sea to Stanley , Falkland Islands
There was motion to the ocean last night as we crossed the Drake Passage into the Atlantic Ocean. The main Lido pool was netted over to reduce the sloshing and the snow on the bow and aft decks was virtually gone.
The highlight of the day was a Remembrance Day celebration at 11am on 11/11/23. It was well done including playing the last post and Taps. Below is a copy of the agenda. If there is sufficient interest, I'll post copies of the entire booklet.
In the afternoon were a couple lectures. The first was by Dr. Harris on marine mammals and the second was a port essentials presentation by Jeremy on Port STANLEY. He also made suggestions that the weather was not looking favorable for being able to make the port stop. This was a follow up to the Captain's similar suggestions in his noon announcement. To my mind, they are posturing everyone for the possibility of missing the port.
I also held a 3pm meeting with my Falklands excursion group of 30 people to announce our meeting point in the Explorer's Lounge at 7:45am.
The evening's entertainment was the illusionist, Gaston Quieto and he was once again very good! Because we need to prepare for an early tender tomorrow, we were in bed by 9:30pm which is a record for us this voyage.
My bet is that we won't make the Stanley port stop. But I'd really like to make it.
