Day 27 - 11/02/23 - At Sea to Puntas Arenas, Chile - Day 2

After cruising all night in increasingly less stormy waters, we woke up to being in the Chilean fjords where we spent the day.  The water was smooth and we cruised through very beautiful country with many turns and twists.  Just before reaching the treat of the day, we passed over an under water mountain where there was only about 3 feet under our keel at high tide.  We slowed to 8 knots to pass over that point so that suction action would not work its magic and draw us down to the bottom.

The treat of the day was to pass by the wreck of the Santa Leonar, a former Liberty ship, which was constructed in 1944 and went aground on a volcano below the surface in 1968. It rests forward and starboard side under water with the stern exposed above water.  Besides salvaged hull steel, there are holes in the hull from Chilean Navy target practice rounds.

During the day we squeezed in Tom Goltz's last lecture about Shackleton and the Endurance as well as Carolina Flores' last lecture which was "Punta Arenas: The Gateway to Antarctica."

In the evening, Unique3 performed their last set for this cruise.  They were once again very good.
