Day 13 - 10/19/23 - At Sea to Callao, Peru
For this sea day, we elected to sleep in until 7:30am in order to attend the interdenominational devotional time. We were then able to eat a leisurely breakfast afterwards. This led into Tom Goltz's lecture on Hiram Bingham's Search For The Lost City of the Incas. It was a good talk and apparently his exploits were a model for the Indiana Jones movie character.
Our guest Peruvian chefs, Renato Kanashiro & Mayra Flores gave a terrific presentation on making ceviché and another dish. While we didn't attend it, the session was presented later at 1pm. Carolina Flores gave a port talk on Callao and General San Martin ports. She's a charming speaker with insights from a local perspective even though she's Colombian.
For the rest of the afternoon I spent catching up on my blog. We chose to attend the Peruvian chefs' special Pinnacle dinner. The food was excellent although the Main course took almost 45 minutes to be delivered. This caused us to miss the first performance of the magician. We, however, made the late show at 9pm and Angela participated in one of the tricks which remains a mystery how Nathan Coe Marsh pulled it off. I know how he did it, but I just don't know how he did it. How's that for complexity!
It's probably worth commenting that much of the day we cruised at 8 knots (10mph) in fog and at one point at noon we saw some whales.
Tomorrow starts an overnight stop in Callao, Peru which is the gateway to Lima which is the country's capital city.
